THE SCOTTISH INVESTMENT TRUST PLC
ANNOUNCEMENT OF APPOINTMENT OF NEW DIRECTOR

The Scottish Investment Trust PLC (SIT) is pleased to announce that Mr Hamish Buchan has been appointed as a non-executive director of the company with effect from Monday 17 November 2003.

Mr Buchan has been closely involved with the investment trust sector since 1969 and was for many years head of the highly regarded investment trust research team at NatWest Securities and its predecessor firms including Wood Mackenzie. He is a director of several investment trusts and a Deputy Chairman of the Association of Investment Trust Companies.

Mr Douglas McDougall, Chairman of the Nomination Committee, commented:

"We are delighted that Hamish Buchan is joining the board. He brings a wealth of experience of the investment trust sector which will be of great benefit."
